It's time to hit the trails again for another GAG event!

Les feuilles changent de couleurs et les maringouins sont partis.
C'est le temps de repartir sur les sentiers pour un autre évènement GAG

Geocaches in the Nation's Capital are ripe for the picking again and we're counting on you to join in on the harvest!
Whether you're reaping last year's fruit or a new batch of freshly placed caches in the area, it's time to tramp the trails and bring in a good yield, then join us for a barn busting good time at the meet and great.

Canada's Capital Cachers presents...

GAG14 Title Graphic

Most of you old hands already know how this works, but for those whose tractors still have that fresh from the factory smell, or for those whose hands are so callused from past harvests, they have a hard time grasping the concept, check here for additional information.

Whether you've been up all night caching under the stars, or just want to show up at the hall on Saturday to meet new people and swap geocaching stories with old friends, everyone is welcome! Here's where we're meeting:

Knights of Columbus
260 McArthur Avenue
Vanier, ON

N 45°25.879 W 075° 39.504

Other needed information:

  • We all get together and swap stories at the above coordinates at 6 PM Saturday, October 17th.
  • The hall does not have a restaurant / kitchen, so bring your own dinner. This cuts down on costs for everyone and allows freedom of movement around the hall without being tied to a table and a bill. Visit the additional information page for some suggestions on where to pick up some grub.
  • A cash bar is available for those who want to toast some FTFs or drowns their DNF sorrows.
  • It would be great if you could bring a door prize along, and if you will have children with you (or are one at heart), it would be wonderful if you could bring a kid's prize as well. All kids (big and small) like to go home with prizes, and they always look forward to that part of the evening.
  • If you have any ideas to add to this event, please send us an email via our profile and we will try to incorporate them.
  • Please post a note on this page indicating if you can make it and how many will be in your party.
  • Please email us if you want to volunteer. We will do our best to find some work for you.

Happy hiding and seeking! See you at the hall on the 17th, or perhaps on the trails on Friday night...

260 McArthur Avenue
Vanier, ON

N 45°25.879 W 075° 39.504

Autres informations importantes:

this bug is not gone! :)

it was a perfect 24 hours, really. managed about 4 hours of sleep, 1 FTF, 32 GAG14 caches, 0 GAG14 DNFs, 2 non-GAG caches and a few more i'd already found, with my hotel guests for the weekend (Dr. House and The Blue Quasar)! so many great times were had, including muddy trails with splashy mud that runs down your jeans into your rubber boot (!), seeing frosty poison ivy, finding unique and creative cache listings and containers, eating too much fast food (the tim hortons frosted cinnamon buns are not worth it!), a giant wasp nest, seeing my face on a cache guardian (!), an exclamation point shaped rainbow, a great turn-out at the event venue, finding out that petendot's pierre will be carrying the olympic torch through ottawa (!!), birdhouse-and-batteries-winning bingo, a gold bug (VW) with GLD BUG licence plate, a BEEZZZ license plate, good tunes in Dr. House's pattywagon, encountering awesome cachers in scary masks, and much much more!

THANK YOU members of the CCC committee for putting this event together. your time and effort is appreciated.

logging this as found on the 19th so this log is not overlooked, even though i was there on the 17th with the rest of you ;)

18 of 18 on GAG14 day in Ottawa, with Fundy07. After missing out on breakfast with the Saturday Geomob to the advantage of my weekend partner's sleeping needs, I was not to miss dinnertime! The "bring-you-own-food" event works well for a large crowd. Thanks to the CCC GAG Committee for the great occasion to meet the Ottawa/Gatineau geofellows again! I really enjoy the diaporama set up as a background every year.

A great 24 hours of caching (with breaks for a few meals and a good 4 hours of sleep) with 34 GAG14 finds, 1 non-GAG find and 2 DNFs (both on caches that had broken from their support), followed by a nice evening spent chatting with lots of crazy cachers.

Thanks everyone!

It all began a year ago when Sakidoo sent me an email describing the GAG13 event and described the fun that she had had caching for hours on end. I had told her at that time to let me know in advance of the event so I could mark it to my calendar. I rarely cache at night let alone think about staying out for 24 hours of caching but I have cached with Sakidoo before and it had ALWAYS BEEN A GREAT TIME...could I make it for 24 hours? Well, with the hospitality and reservation for the 'BROWN" Bed and Breakfast in place. I took Sakidoo up her offer to come up and join she and Tanglebones and Garmin Gal. There was no looking back but only ahead to a 24 hour event of the most magnificent proportions. There are not enough words to express the fantastic comraderie shared, the hilarity and joy at finding a host of humourous and very clever hides. The creativity, the originality of placement and to think that within the 5000 already permanent caches in the region that there could be so many cache spots left to take us without losing the tread of our car tires! From the well organized pocket query of cache lists to the flavours at Moe's Breakfast to the evening finale it was SUPER...SUPER... SUPER! I wish to thank all the organizers, cachers and owners for putting together a fantastic potpourri of positive experiences. The success rate of finds is a true testament to the caching spirit not only in the Ottawa area but beyond and those puzzles...wow they sure stretched my mind to dimensions I had never been to before. This event was a GO and GET EM from the start...to all those I met for the first time-it was great-to those I knew-it was great-to those owners whose hides were wonderful in night lites of headlamps and the glow of the sunrise-it was great. With Sakidoo's permission I hope to reserve this special event for 2010...an event that I am sure will be of OLYMPIC dimensions...now...to sleep...perchance to dream...of things to come. THANK YOU EVERYONE!

Another one has come and gone. Some interesting caches this round, I think I DNF'D on my favorite for this GAG event. Great to catch up with some people that I have not seen for a while. Finally the sequel to the long awaited trailer park boys was made, Thanks Tripper and crew. Thanks to all the people who make GAG what it is, those who hide caches, those who find them and those who make sure things are as smooth as can be. WOW all those reviewers who showed up

Many thanks to the event organizers and all the cache hiders for a great day! Great to join the crowd again at Moe's (though it was disappointing to hear our favourite waitress, Nawhal, is no longer there ). We then headed east, and started working our way back west. Soon met up with, and spent most of the day in the company of hidnseek and Red Haired Witch. Lots of caches and, surprisingly, lots in areas we hadn't been to before. All in all an outstanding day. Once again, thanks for the great day.

To quote Groucho Marx: "I've had a lovely evening. This wasn't it." This was actually an awesome round-the-clock FANTASTIC fun time!!! Great to run into all the cachers that we met on the trail and at the supper. Seeing all the creativity that's out there is truly inspiring.

See y'all at the next one!

My first GAG experience and event. I was great to see all these happy fellow cachers. Name tags would have help the outsider from Montreal that I was to put face on nickname that I came across.
All together I had a wonderfull caching experience. It is nice to see a very frendly and active caching community.

I will be back for more.

Thanks to all of those who made it possible.

Several months ago, I was made aware of a little joke thread that had occurred in the forums which included a friend of mine (CD) and a new friend of mine (MB). When CD told me about it, I chuckled about it for a bit that day and then we carried on with our caching. Sometime shortly after that initial conversation, he and I both attended COG Spring Fling in Barrie and met many of the members of CCC, including the lovely MB. I think it's neat that something that started rather innocently spiralled into an impetus to take a road trip to the National Capital. And I think it was totally worth it.

In my opinion, the folks of the CCC are a great group of people. It was neat to take part in the traditional breakfast at Moe's, cache in a different province, see the creativity and sense of humour that went into placing all these GAG14 caches and to explore an area I've never been before. Kudos to Alison, Lib, Steve and everyone else who had a hand in putting this event together or placed a cache for it's success. Special thanks to MB for being an awesome host and for putting up with us all weekend.

Perhaps I will venture this way again soon. Thanks all!

Last of thirty four GAG14 finds. Found in company with Garmin Gal.

Once again, a tremendous thank you for all the hard work of the 'CCC GAG Committee', who plan these events from their secret underground lair deep inside the Mer Bleue Bog. This one, like all the others I've attended, was an awful lot of fun and it was great to see other cachers on the trails, old and new friends alike. Thanks also to the people who placed all these fine caches, and who work to maintain them all through the year.

This year, we were GAGging with new friends from Kingston and Trenton, and both remarked on what a vibrant, friendly and helpful geo-community we are blessed with here in Ottawa. Indeed, and I couldn't agree more. Well, at least until the GAG Advertising Ministry sends some funds my way in a little brown envelope...then I'd find a way to agree more, I'm sure.

Thanks, folks.

- TB

Together with the rest of the SOB's, I had a great day of caching.

Weather was great, the caches were great. (Well, except for that one DNF &*$%). Cached most of the day with Hidnseek and The Red-Haired Witch, who I believe are both committee members, and responsible for all our Puzzle finds.

Thanks to them and all the committee for organizing this. I know it can be a pain and stressing, but you all did a great job.

Thanks for another great GAG. Sigspig and I cached all day Friday, and Saturday afternoon. 55 caches (27 GAG14's) and 4 FTF's shared with RossMTBiker, Shadow & Opichi. Visited a few areas of the city I had never been to (Navan, north Kanata) and met several cachers along the way, such as Stangman, Geoaventuriers, and a few mobs.

Thanks a bunch!

Well, it just keeps getting better every year! A full hall filled to overflowing with happy cachers, and happy organisers! Thanks to all our volunteers who toiled endlessly to pull it all together this year. GreyingJay did a great job putting up the slideshow again, and it was fun to see some new photos of this year's caching! The prize donors outdid themselves again this year. Thanks for all the cool swag! And a big thank you to everyone who placed a cache or two for us all to find.

Now to soothe tired muscles and take a few days to relax and reflect on the....wait a sec....there's still more GAG caches out there to find....!

#1334 - What can I say that has not already been said. great weather, great caches and great people. Very happy at the turn out we had tonight at that the hall was able to accommodate the volume nicely. Heck, we had more people show up than the Halloween party next door!

A big thank you to everyone who placed caches for the event, who brought door prizes, who volunteered their time to work the event, or those who simply were hitting the trails and then chatting it up afterward. Without all of you it wouldn't be an event!

I was happy to see so many familiar faces and a few new ones, and my only regret was that I didn't take the time to stop and talk to more of you while go-for-ing around the hall. Hope everyone was sufficiently entertained. Cheers!

P.S. Voting board results will be posted here as a log, and on the ottawageocaching.com forums before the weekend is out.

Another successful event excellently organized. Even the weather cooperated to make of this, a GAG to remember. As always, we enjoyed meeting our fellow cachers and others from further afield. After exchanging many an e-mail, it was nice to meet Cachedrone and the other reviewers that spend a lot of their free time ensuring that the game of geocaching will provide a quality and long lasting experience to those who dare solve puzzles of all difficulty levels and walk not only in nice trails but in unexpected sink holes and smelly ones at that. Sorry Speleodude.

Perfect weather! It was too nice, so we had to go on almost all night. In all honesty, I'm the one who first said we should be home by midnight, but while out on the trails, I just couldn't stop. We found about 30 caches from 6:00pm to 4:15am the first night, and 8 more today (a bit of a late start because I had to wait for Barbadel's wife to push him out of the bed in the afternoon).

Thanks to everyone who placed caches!

Another GAG accomplished! An what a beautiful fall weekend for an all day outdoor event! Thanks for all the great caches everyone, I'll be finding GAG14 caches for a few weeks yet. It was nice to see so many people coming from out of town too! I hope you had a good time in the Nations Capital.
Cheers,

I had a blast! Thanks to all the organizers and cache hiders for the immense amount of work put into making this another great GAG! Here are my GAG totals: 4 FTF's, 45/72 GAG caches, 5 non-GAG caches and only 1 DNF. So a total of 50 caches; exactly what Pibelle and I had predicted. I can't wait for the next GAG!

We had a great time caching this weekend getting as many GAG caches as we could. A very big thank you to everyone that organized this event and to all those that placed caches for everyone to enjoy! It was very nice to be able to chat with people we already know and to make a few new friends. Kids were very pleased with their prizes too!

Thank you all very much!!

I was looking forward to this event for a while now. As things turned out, I didn't find as many caches as I had originally hoped, but still found quite a few. Today was a beautiful day and I got to spend some time in the woods with my daughters and my friends Pokaroo, RP Guiders and Inkyfiller. I was very impressed with all the hard work that went into this event, and also impressed by the attendance at the closing event. I think that next year we should go for a mega!

Thanks very much for the event!

Couldn't resist making this find #1500. Yahoo !!!!! . Missbug took a photo which I will post later. What a fun day and thanks to the Geo-gods for incredible October weather. Started my day with Portera and his girls, plus Daphne & John, Team Vintage. My kind of folks who cache at a "civilized rate of knots" We started with an attack in the Mer Blue area, and parted company in Green's Creek. I continued to cache the Orleans area ( very enjoyable GAG14 caches) had me chuckling at the creativity. Met many cachers whose names I recognized but had never met. That's another of the GAG's charm. (Thanks again Tick & Nammie) Arrived at the KOC hall to find it filled with the complete range of cachers and cacher's familys. Nothing compares to this cross section of the population, who have the discovered a key to happiness. So nice to chat with so many friends... old and new. Humble thanks to the folks who made this happen. Great location, and super organization. You all deserve FTF's for this. So many SMILES !! TUVM - SL TFTE !! Inkyfiller

A little dance of excitement as we enjoyed your Event and got find #9999 Woo Hoo so many great cachers and friends here, new, experience, young, old and a few just a wee bit nutty
Lots of prizes (our prize was all the great company) Thanks to the organizers, those who placed caches and everyone who finds them (without those willing to hunt there would be no point in hiding caches) We had a great day and this just topped it off!

Now for the next stage in the hunt ... 10,000 finds to be completed at GC958, the oldest multi in Canada. Starting at 08:30 on 18th Oct 09. Another find day on the trail.

Happy Hunting to all our fellow Geocachers and Thanks to all (including the volunteer approvers ) for your time and efforts to make this game so awesome.

1 , here we come!

A full day/weekend! Arrived from Toronto late last night -- and full of colds! So we crashed and didn't try to cache until after a nice breakie at Moe's. Had to make a few detours through the day to favour places like bagel shops. Ran into old friends and new on the trails, got very muddy, and completed 21 caches. Grabbed a shower and dinner and made it to the event with plenty o' time before the prizes - very important to our younger set. We enjoyed talking up the caches with everyone there. It was a very good day. Thanks everyone for organizing -- we love the reason/excuse to return to Ottawa!

WOOT!!!!

Cache #600!!!!! After a truly horrible day of geocaching, it was nice to have it end with a planned 600th find at the event.

Thanks to everyone who worked so hard at organizing this event and get-together. Well-planned, well-organized, and well-attended. This is our second GAG event and we enjoyed it just as much as the last one. Still being fairly new to geocaching, we're still finding our way, meeting fellow cachers, and so on ... It's a nice way to put a name to face or to get to meet a few people whose logs we've read or caches we've found. Thanks, also, to all the cache owners who set out the GAG14 caches (and all the other caches for that matter).

Finally, we were the lucky ones who won the first door prize - WOW!!! Thanks so much for the beautiful geocacher pampering basket and the cordless handsaw. Just crazy!! Who would have ever thought it?!?!?! The female member of the team is looking forward to tonight's bath (LOL)!!! And the other products will come in handy (no doubt) when we get sunburned, mosquito bitten or trudge through poison ivy (as we no doubt will).

Thanks again to everyone!!!

Informal conversation earlier in the year kinda joked about Blue Quasar and myself making the trek up to this neck of the woods for the next GAG event. Then there was the semi-formal-behind-the-scenes conversations with missbug and others trying to plan out some details to see if this could really come to fruition. Now it's time to pony up and commit to having fun in the Capital region. I have taken some vacation days to coincide with this event and plan to make the jaunt from Niagara for a few days to come and play. I will let BQ speak for himself, but I am in.
