Aviation Cache: A-7D Corsair II 72-0213 Letterbox Hybrid

The Ling-Temco-Vought A-7 Corsair II was a carrier-capable subsonic light attack aircraft introduced to replace the Douglas A-4 Skyhawk. The A-7 airframe design was based on the successful supersonic Vought F-8 Crusader, although it was somewhat smaller and rounded off. The Corsair II initially entered service with the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. It was later adopted by the United States Air Force, including the Air National Guard, to replace the Douglas A-1 Skyraider, North American F-100 Super Sabre and Republic F-105 Thunderchief.

• 1983: Transferred to Iowa ANG 124th Tactical Fighter Squadron (132nd Tactical Fighter Group), Iowa ANG, Des Moines, IA
• 1988: Transferred to 152nd Tactical Fighter Squadron (162nd Tactical Fighter Group) Arizona ANG, Tuscon, AZ
• Unknown: Transferred to AMARC into storage
• 1997: Loaned to Iowa Aviation Museum for display

The cache is hidden on the museum property and placed with their permission. There is no need to climb on the aircraft but the hidey spot is not obvious.
