Here north of Kuhonbutsu Joshinji area was a wetland there was the creek and pond until mid-Showa.
The pond was reclaimed and the creek culvert when Japanese post-war economic miracle. Previously, there was "Tokyu Bunkakaikan" building remembered as a landmark in front of Shibuya Station. The soil encountered during the construction of this building is likely to reclaim the pond.
Though small creek in the park is artificial water circulation system, the wooden boardwalk at north of the park were made over the Kuhonbutsu river.
Along down the drain road, you will be the south side of the Jiyuugaoka station.
Jiyuugaoka station was named "Kuhonbutsu-mae station" originally, then, it renamed "Jiyuugaoka station" because they made a new station "Kuhonbutsu station" another.

九品仏浄真寺の北側の一帯は、昭和の中ごろまでは池があり川が流れる湿地帯でした。
高度経済成長期にこのあたりも急速に宅地化が進み、池は埋め立てられ、川は暗渠になりました。渋谷の駅前に以前「東急文化会館」というランドマーク的なビルがありましたが、このビルを建設する時に発生した土砂が、ここの池を埋め立てるのに使われたそうです。また、公園の中に現在ある流れは人工的なもので水が循環されていますが、公園の北側の木道は九品仏川の流れの跡に作られているようです。この暗渠を下っていくと道路となり、自由が丘駅の南側を通って、緑ヶ丘で呑川に合流しています。東横線・自由が丘駅は、開業当初「九品仏前駅」という名称でしたが、その後、大井町線が開通し新たに大井町線に九品仏駅ができたために「自由ヶ丘駅」に改称されました。
