A memorial to David Thompson, one of North America's greatest cartographers.
This is a virtual geocache. There is no actual cache container or log book (other than the virtual log book on this web site). There is only a memorial stone at the above coordinates.
To log this virtual, please do the following:
- Visit the memorial at the posted coordinates.
- Make note of the seventh word engraved into the face of the stone that faces away from the water (i.e. the side that faces toward the northeast). HINT: the word is not "FIRST"!
- Send this word to me in an email or Message Center message
- NEW: In order to combat a rash of fake logging, I now also require that you take a photo of yourself with the monument visible in the background and post it with your log (please be sure to not include the answer to the above verification question). For privacy purposes, it is not necessary to show your face unless you wish to. It is not necessary to also message me with your photo.
- Download this .zip file containing a certificate of accomplishment and a history of David Thompson. The .zip archive is password protected and the password is the word found and emailed to me above. Please note that the password is case sensitive; enter it using a capitalized first letter and small caps for all subsequent letters. E-mail me if you have problems.
