Geocache Description:

This cache will provide some of the best views in Skagit County. From Route 20 turn onto Sauk Mountain Road. You will follow this gravel road for nearly 8 miles as it climbs 4000 feet. At the end of the road you will find two things; great views and a parking area with a trailhead.

From the parking lot take a nice look at Sauk Mountain; the cache is close to the top. To get to the cache you will follow the trail for approximately 1.5 miles in which it will switchback 26 times as it gains over 1000 feet in elevation. Once you find the cache please continue on the trail to the top of Sauk Mountain. You will not be disappointed. From the top there is a 360-degree view with a spectacular and unique view of Mount Baker. There used to be a lookout tower on the top but it was removed in the 1980's.

I stirred up a grouse just a few feet from where I placed the cache. On the way to the peak of the mountain we spotted a Pica. One hundred and thirty different plants have been counted on Sauk Mountain. There are enough plants on the mountain to keep everyone entertained.
