Geocache Description:

Whimper & Whine

Welcome and enjoy, there are some tough areas, some very steep cliffs, a couple of creek crossings and very few trails of any decent use.

Tree cover is thick in some parts but the good thing is the under growth is limited so there will be very little bushwacking.

Should you decide to attempt this cache you are more than welcome to develop your own approach but that is totally your decision

Start off by parking at the posted parking area and walk towards the location of SPIDERMAN .

Special consideration steps
  • Step 1 will skirt a neighbor’s property, please be respectful and keep to the woods.
  • Step 2 is at an old house foundation - pretty cool area.
  • Step 3 is also in an old house foundation but be careful in the area. The neighbors across the creek have several no trespassing signs bordering their property (you will not be close) and they have a couple of barking dogs.

There are many trees marked for selective timbering per Erie County Council meeting minutes. I have looked for some information about the area and found some history of Harborcreek Township around the cache area and Erie County Department of Planning site regarding six mile creek parkp>

This is a wonderful area with some great views. Plenty of Oak, Maple, Beech and Cherry trees and wildlife entertainment will provide a great amount of enjoyment specifically in the fall.

I want to remind you that I feel that the terrain rating is correct, this is not an easy hike and I did not want to make it an easy hike. I had a great time wandering around in the area and found some great spots.

Please be careful near the ridge top, some spots are very dangerous, a simple step could end your geocaching career forever.

Navigating through the area was fairly easy but I did loose the signal a few times and encountered some mud and slippery rocks, don't spend your entire adventure focusing on the GPS. Take your time and enjoy the challenge.

Overall, you will walk at least 4-5 miles (it took me 3 hours). Plan properly for some rugged terrain, bring water and let someone know what you are doing and where you are going. I averaged the cache location (about 15 minutes) with two GPSR'S and obtained 11 foot accuracy

Look at the picture, the cache is under the log where I am standing. I loaded the cache with plenty of good swag.

Updated 3/22/08, there may be an easier way to get to the final but you miss out on all the adventure.
