Long ago when serious ski trips to Nordmarka started downtown, Appelsinhaugen was about as far as the most intrepid skiers got. Looking back to the city and the fjord from here, they would maybe enjoy their orange, if they had one, before heading down the hills again.
Actually there are two summits on this ridge. One is by a marked trail and facing south, the other is unknown to most people and offers a wonderful view to the north.
The Orange Light cache sits by the latter, which is also the higher of the two. It started out as a 1 litre Pivenmöck ice cream container dotted with little orange shapes. As you know, oranges grow on trees although ours get some help from velcro. However, after many years of service, the Pivenmöck container needed replacement and got one, in the shape of a military food container.
Initial contents:
A phony orange (tradeable only for another phony orange or very similar items, like a plastic mandarin)
An orange log
An orange pencil
Orange-flavored lozenges
Orange-flavored candy
Orange flavored dents
Orange-flavored high-energy chocolate bar
A Canadian Geocoin
As you may have guessed by now, there is an orange theme to this cache. Please trade only with items that relate to this excellent fruit in one way or another. Please do not endanger the cache by burdening it with the real fruit itself or any other unwrapped food items. Juice is probably a bad idea too.
This cache is dedicated to Bernhard Herre (1812-1849), the first urban dweller to explore these secretive forests and write about them with insight and beauty.
