This webcam is located on a private cottage on the east side of
Waneta Lake. You may not go on the property of the webcam
owner to log this cache, but you can log it from a boat. Public
access to launch a boat can be found on County Road 23, between the
lakes, at N42°25.294' W77°05.382'. The launching ramp can
accommodate larger boats. We had no problems putting in a 20 foot
Four Winns.
The webcam can be accessed at this website. There is a
"splash page" with an address you can send donations to, if so
desired. Since this webcam isn't owned by a business and has been
active since 2002, I've decided to link to that page as a gesture
of thanks for making this camera available to the public. You don't
have to make a donation to log the cache.
The listed coordinates will take you out in the water in front
of the webcam. Look for the tree with a white circle on it (see the
picture below). To capture an image of yourself you'll need a cell
phone to call someone at home who can control the webcam. We
brought 2 different ones, my old Nokia TracPhone and my mothers
newer Motorola TracPhone. The new one had trouble getting a signal,
but mine worked fine. You might want to play it safe and bring as
many phones as possible. Another option is to have someone waiting
at home and tell them a specific time you'll be at the camera. By
doing that you could be able to log this cache without even using a
phone. When you're in the frame click the small camera icon on the
bottom left to get an image you can save. The camera has very good
zoom capabilities, so you should have no trouble getting a good
image. Make sure that your GPS is being held up in the picture.
Also, since it's the law to have one on a boat, and to make it
easier to show that you're a cacher, you must also hold up a PFD
(personal floatation device). That's a life jacket to you land
lubbers. Any type will do. No PFD, no log.
If anyone has seen another webcam cache like this, please let me
know.
