Geocache Description:

Listen! Did you hear that? I'm sure I heard something go "quack" in the night...

Welcome to Team-Ducky's 2nd Night Cache!
A short walk on logging trails through a the Texas School House State Forest--in the dark.

Don't be afraid. I'm sure it is only the wind.... or maybe an owl... or... something equally harmless...

THIS IS A NIGHT CACHE.

The cache is not at the posted coordinates. The coordinates will take you to a spot off one of the roads running through the Texas School House State Forest where there is room for 2-3 cars to pull off to the side. Once at this spot, you will need a bright flashlight or a headlamp. Look into the woods for the reflective "fire tacks" that mark the trail to the cache location.

Fire tacks are placed above eye-level, so shine your light forward and up. Single tacks mark the continuation of the path. Double Tacks indicate the path will be taking a significant turn or change in direction. Triple tacks mark the location of the cache.

NOTE: HUNTERS HAVE PUT OUT DOZENS OF FIRE TACKS IN THE AREA SINCE WE PUT THIS CACHE OUT. THEIR TACKS ARE BELOW EYE LEVEL AND SQUARE CUBES. OURS ARE ABOVE EYE LEVEL AND ARE ROUND. IF YOU ARE UNSURE, CHECK THE SHAPE OF THE TACK BEFORE FOLLOWING THE TRAIL.

Most of the trail follows old logging trails and wide paths through the woods, but caution is still advised. The ground can be uneven with sticks, stones, mud, and other potential tripping hazards. Hiking boots are highly recommended. Depending on the time of year, bug repellant may also be a great idea! The cache container is hidden above the snow-line, so this is a winter friendly cache (though the snow will make it harder to walk.) Hunting is allowed in state forests, but not at night. During hunting season, please do not attempt this cache until at least an hour after complete darkness has fallen. Also, be aware, this area is a cell phone dead zone for most carriers, so do not plan on using smart phones or calling for assistance. As with all caching at night, it is best to not cache alone.

After you find the cache container, the trail of fire tacks continues on and will lead you back to the beginning where you parked. (Or you can turn around and follow the trail back the way you came-- the choice is yours.) The entire trail, from start to cache and back to beginning, is ~.4 miles (though it seems longer in the dark and with all the turns.)

Shhhh... I'm sure I heard something go, "Quack, Quack, Quack..."
