CARL 2 is the second annual Cache & Relax event for Lethbridge.
Welcome to CARL2, the second annual Lethbridge Cache and Relax event. This year it is hosted by EO-LETH and coordinated by Morningdrifter, Stitch1 and TeamDJM. We had a great event last year so let’s enjoy the longest day of the year doing what we all enjoy – caching. The event consists of a 24 hour cache-finding marathon culminating with a gathering at the posted coordinates for refueling, story-telling and prize distribution. Check back closer to the date to see if there are any other changes.
There are three stages to the CARL2 event: 1) the Hides, 2) the Hunt and 3) the Gathering.
THE HIDE: hide one or more caches between now and Monday, June 14th, the deadline is to ensure that Cache Effect has sufficient time to review and publish all the hides for the event. Hiders are encouraged to place their caches earlier than that to work out any issues that may arise.
NOTE: Every cache listing submitted for CARL2 should include the following:
1) CARL2 at the end of the title (e.g. Big Hill Cache CARL2) to facilitate searches by keyword. NOTE: CARL2 must be written without any spaces or dashes to allow for searches and an accurate list of published caches.
2) At the top of your description mention that the cache is for the CARL2 event, and should not be sought out until after 6:00 pm on June 18th and any logs before that will be deleted.
3) a note to the reviewer stating that it is placed for the CARL2 event and should be published the evening of Thursday, June 17th
4) CARL2 caches are published the evening before to give everyone chance to look at the cache listings, solve puzzles and devise their battle plans before the hunt begins.
RULES: CARL2 caches:
- no nanos please!
- micro-caches are permitted, but they must thoughtful (i.e. no micros in spruce trees) with a maximum of one micro (too small for a pencil) cache hidden per geocaching account
- puzzle and multi-caches are allowed, but keep them short and sweet (in other words, solvable and findable within 30-45 minutes)
- all hides must be hidden within 40 km of the posted coordinates
- hide caches you would enjoy finding yourself.
- all hides must be made to remain permanent following the event for everyone to find at their leisure
THE HUNT: At 6:00 pm on Friday June 18th, all CARL2 caches become fair game and the hunt begins. Feel free to find as many or as few caches as you want. During the hunt, please document the time of find in the logbook. This makes things more interesting by informing subsequent finders how close they are on your tail.
NOTE: You are welcome to find any other caches in Lethbridge during the event, but only caches with CARL2 in the title count towards your CARL2 finds total.
THE GATHERING: The above coordinates are for the gathering.
We will be there by 4:00 for voting, visiting & story telling. At 6:00 pm on Saturday, June 19, following a hectic (or leisurely) 24 hour marathon of caching, we will gather for a picnic. The gathering will be held at a picnic site owned by the City of Lethbridge. This is a family gathering in a public space so no alcohol please. There is a playground, open grassed area and shelter from rain or sun and a great place for junior cachers. Please bring your lawn chairs and picnic supper for your family. If you want to roast wieners, please bring firewood and forks for the stoves.
As with all events, please post a 'Will Attend' note with a mention of the number of people accompanying you.
RECOGNITION/PRIZES:
After supper, credit will be given for accomplishments achieved during the event. Prizes will be awarded if at all possible. Donations for prizes are welcome. Please notify us if you have something to donate
