Geocache Description:

A beacon of light provided safety for ships at sea over the years. To some who saw it, it was a warning of shallow waters and distruction if approached to closely. To others, it meant home port and family. It has stood against Mother Nature's wrath, and man's attempts of distruction during wartime. To this day,the Matagorda Island Lighthouse continues to resist the most distructive thing of all - Time.

This is not your average Meet and Greet Event. You will have to supply EVERYTHING you need to survive a day outdoors in the wilderness. You will also have to provide your own transportation to and from the island. Then there will be a significant hike through wilderness terrain to finally arrive at the given coordinates. If you arrive at the main boat dock on the island, it is a 3 mile hike, one way, to the coordinates. If you ground your boat on a beach somewhere, you will have to figure out your own walking distance. It will be an adventure to arrive at the appropriate time for this Event. By then you will have worked up quite an appetite, and be ready for lunch.

Lunch will be at Noon, or when our adventure gets us to the lighthouse.

Lunch at this location will be whatever everyone brings. There are no restaurants on this island. As a matter of fact, there is nothing on this island except wilderness. No restaurants, no restrooms, no drinking water. But we are civilized. We will allow you to swap sandwiches, chips, cookies, drinks, or whatever you brought, with others. But only if they are agreeable.

Before we leave our "lunch room", we'll be sure to do a quick CITO and take all trash out with us.

NOTE: Several of us have chartered a boat to get to Matagorda Island. A few seats are still available at $40 per person. Contact me (8Nuts MotherGoose) by email (NOT GC messaging) if interested. My email address is public on my profile page.
