Box Canyon is located on Highway S-2 south of Highway 78 in Anza Borrego Desert State Park. It is a little cooler here than some parts of Anza Borrego because of the altitude which is 2580 feet. Park at the roadside turn-out for Box Canyon. A Kiosk with information about Box Canyon, the Butterfield Overland Stage Route and the Mormon Battalion is a short walk from the parking area. Start here and walk down the trail to the left into the wash above the dropoff. Take a pen and paper with you. Be careful around the many Agave Cactus plants. You do not want to step through them! Check the pictures. If you stop for a while during your search, you will hear many birds in this lovely area. Please do not give away any secrets you find here :-)
Coordinate List:
N33*00.875 W116*26.553 [Box Canyon Kiosk]
N33*00.798 W116*26.592 [Box Canyon Cache]
You might want to try this experiment to help minimize the variations between GPS units, and in the signals themselves. I call it ‘GeoDifferential Error Correction’.
Write down the coordinates from your GPS at the Kiosk. Start with the North coordinate. If my North coordinate for [Box Canyon Kiosk] is larger than yours, subtract yours from mine to get the difference. Now SUBTRACT that difference from my North coordinate for the cache. On the other hand, if yours is larger than mine then subtract mine from yours and ADD that difference to my North cache coordinate. Write that corrected coordinate down for the North coordinate of the cache location. Now do the same procedure for the West coordinate. Now use these GeoDifferentially corrected coordinates for the cache! Take your correction notes with you :-)
Have fun!
