Between the villages of
Osvetimany and Medlovice lies the only locality with porcelain
jasper (porcellanite) in Moravia - Medlovice quarry.
Local people call it "red quarry" because of its brick-red color.
The history of this quarry is not very long. The mining began
before World War II; the mined material was used for hardening
roads and making decorations. Quarry was abandoned in late
seventies.
Porcellanite is a chert-looking mineral. It
arose during panon when clays were sedimenting with beds of lignite
in shallow boundary depressions. Clays were burned after burn-out
of lignite bed and porcellanite was made. The most interesting part
of quarry is a 50-meter long quarry wall, which represents a cut
through the rest of the unique occurrence of porcellanite in its
full profile, including zones of contact with subsoil and
burden.

Na rozmezí katastru
Osvetiman a Medlovic se nachází jediné nalezište porcelánového
jaspisu (porcelanitu) na Morave - Medlovický lom. Pro
místní je známejší pod názvem "cervenice" nebo "cervenka", který
získal díky svému cihlove cervenému zbarvení. Historie lomu není
dlouhá. Težba porcelanitu zde zacala na zacátku druhé svetové války
a vytežený materiál byl využíván zejména na zpevnení komunikací
nebo k dekoracním úcelum. Od sedmdesátých let je težba zastavena a
od roku 1997 je oblast vyhlášena chráneným územím okresu Uh.
Hradište.
Porcelanit je hornina rohovcového vzhledu.
Vznikla behen panonu, kdy se v melkých okrajových depresích
usazovaly jíly se slojemi lignitu. Po vyhorení lignitové sloje
došlo k vypálení puvodních jílu a vzniku porcelanitu. Nejcennejší
cást lokality tvorí lomová stena cca 50 m dlouhá, která
reprezentuje prurez zbytkem jedinecného výskytu porcelanitu v
úplném profilu, vcetne zón kontaktu s nadložím a podložím.
Pro zalogování této earthcache musíte splnit
následující podmínky:
1. Vyfotit se s vaší GPSkou pred lomovou stenou a fotku
priložit k logu.
2. Pošlete mi mailem: Jak vysoká je stena lomu a jak velká
je rozloha lomu ? Co je to lignit ?
