Situated about 3Km SW of Tandragee in Co. Armagh, Clare Glen follows the valley of the Cusher River north-east from Clare village towards Derryallen. Primary tree species are Oak, Birch and Scots Pine, with Alder and Willow along the river banks.
Directions: Take the B3/B2 from Tandragee, SP: "Markethill". The glen is well signposted from this road. There are two car parks - one at N54º20.431 W006º25.725, and the other at N54º19.929 W006º26.585. Caravan parking is available at the first location (by arrangement) in the summer only. The Setting: Clare Glen contains some remnants of old-growth oak woodland. Grey Squirrels are everywhere, bird life is abundant and the wood is a stronghold of the Dunnock prunella modularis. The very rare Tissue Moth triphosa dubitata has been seen here.
Paths within the glen are good and gradients modest, but stout footwear is still recommended. The local Council are attempting to improve disabled access, and this page will be updated as the work progresses.
NOTE: To find the cache, you need to be on the WEST side of the river.
The Cache: A tab-lock box is loosely wrapped in black material and hidden at ground level, containing geocaching goodies and the usual swap items.
The co-ordinates on this page are accurate but, in high summer, leaf cover may make things more difficult - hence the rating of 3.5/2. Although there are sufficient clearings to obtain the necessary fix, a compass for cross-bearings might still be a useful item of equipment to have.
