Geocache Description:

The co-ordinates will lead you to a location close to the monument of "Stalin's James Bond" Richard Sorge.

Sorge was born 1895 in a suburb of Baku as son of a German mining engineer working for the Nobel brothers in the oil-sector and his Russian wife.

As spy for Stalin the charismatic bon vivant and womanizer succeeded to infiltrate the Nazi Party and the German Intelligence Service.

From Japan, China and Germany he submitted top secret information to Stalin and provided him with the exact date of the foreseen German attack on the Soviet Union:
June 22, 1941 >early in the morning<.

The fact that Stalin ignored the information turned out to be a fatal error.

Even one month prior of being arrested Sorge was honoured by the German Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 1944 as the best German journalist.

Shortly thereafter he was arrested in Japan and eventually hanged.
