The cache is a small round box with a few, very small, swaps in it. It will take tiny TB's or Geocoins. There is parking available next to the church and there is a small road which leads down to this parking area (near the high school entrance). A waypoint for this entance is included below.
The cache is down a small unmetalled footpath to the left of the castle. The path drops away steeply and quickly into the trees and is well away from, and out of sight of, both the church and the High School. A waypoint for the start of this path is also listed below.
There are some specific challenges to bear in mind with this cache.
- Getting an accurate GPS signal in this area was very tricky. Hence, please don't rely too much on this to find the cache. The final coordinate isn't bad but your GPS signal may be bounced about
- Despite the name there is no cafe - don't come with high expectations!
Okay, so the cache isn't about the coffee brand! Instead it relates to Mearns Castle, which was built in 1449 for Lord Herbert Maxwell. The stone tower was built on the site of an older wooden structure built by a knight (Rolland de Mearns). The later "Maxwell House" had 8 ft thick walls, a moat, a drawbridge, fortifications and everything..........

This metal church building was stuck on to the tower around 1971 when the old Maxwell Church (in Pollok Street, South Glasgow) was closed to make way for the new Kingston Bridge. Only 1970's building regulations would allow such a construction!!

First to Find - gordon2 - well done!
