Heritage Tree #1 - Blackstone Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

MadMin: I attempted to contact the owner of Heritage Tree #1 - Blackstone to find out about the status of this cache on 5/8/2008. As I have received limited response from the owner via email and ultimately no action, I'm afraid I have to archive this cache.

I will be more than happy to review this cache again and (hopefully) reinstate it once you have corrected any issues with the cache, but corrections MUST be made before this can happen. please contact me via ma.reviewer@gmail.com to do so.

Please note that unarchiving a cache page places it through the same review process as a newly proposed cache, using the cache placement guidelines currently in effect.

Geocache Description:

Heritage Tree #1 - Blackstone is the first in a series of caches showcasing nature's great beauties: Trees! This roadside micro cache is located near a majestic 105 ft. American Sycamore tree. Although the exact age of the tree is unknown, the Tree Warden for Blackstone mentioned he wouldn't be suprised if our forefathers marched past this tree on their way to the Revolutionary War!

What is a Heritage Tree? It is a public shade tree specifically designated by the Department of Environmental Management, Urban Forestry Program, upon recommendation by the Town Tree Warden. Heritage trees may qualify for state funds for maintenance under this program and are protected by law. A tree may qualify as a heritage tree if it meets one or more of the following criteria: a. Old Age - 100 years or greater; Size - 32 inches diameter or greater; b. Species rarity; c. Association with specific historical event or person; d. Healthy abnormality; e.g., shape, etc.; e. Scenic enhancement f. Wildlife value.

Public Shade Trees and Heritage Trees are protected under Massachusetts General Law, Section 87, Section 1. Up to a five hundred dollar ($500) fine plus the cost of damages can be assessed against anyone who injures, defaces or destroys any public tree in a way. If you see any damage while visiting, please email me so I can contact the Tree Warden.

Please sign the log inside the micro. There is a Jefferson for the First to First (FTF).You will need to bring your own pen/pencil. Also, please feel free to post any photos during your visit.
