You'll be hiking in Grapevine Canyon on the south facing slopes of the San Gabriel Mountains in the Angeles NF. You're looking for a large cammo'd coffee container near the lower fork in the trail. This series of caches can (also) be accessed by the Elsmere Canyon trailhead.
This is a loop trail beginning near the landmark Los Angeles Aquaduct "Cascades". Take Balboa Blvd. to Nicklaus Dr. There will be a small gated childrens play area with a three car parking lot (34 19.550 - 118 29.556)...park here or along Nicklaus Dr. Hike along the asphalt road to a cart path which will take you to Elsmere Mtwy....or just climb the small slope to access the road. You can also hike to the top of the Cascades....it's too bad that the Cascades Golf Course went out of business....this is a little used area that has much potential with the Rim of the Valley Trail Corridor that will eventually be developed into an inter-linking system of natural lands, parks, open space, and wildlife habitat....and link the Santa Monica, Santa Susana, and San Gabriel Mountain areas. Fremont Pk. (ele. 2359) is at the top of the loop. There won't be much shade....you're hiking in coastal sage and chaparral...with some oak woodlands. You can also hike Elsmere Mtwy northward into Elsmere Canyon and Whitney Canyon Park. Be smart, be prepared...and have fun!
