Although there are other caches nearby, this is such a special
place - it deserves more caches and admirers.
A large development of expensive homes was planned for this
spot, but the California Coastal Conservancy, Carpinteria residents
and others raised more than $4 million to preserve it forever as
public parkland.
There are a couple of places to access this cache. Most popular
is to take Bailard exit, and park in dirt lot just south of
freeway. Cache is a very safe distance from the Amtrak rail line,
and you will NOT cross the tracks to find it.
On most days, you will have a fine view of Venoco oil platforms
(we all drove cars to get here, right?), whales and other marine
mammals, the entire length of Santa Cruz Island, and perhaps
Anacapa and Santa Rosa islands too. Bring your binoculars and
camera.
Near the bluffs, we saw many harbor seals, black oystercatchers
(birds) and a gopher snake!
PLEASE RE-HIDE CACHE CAREFULLY AND COMPLETELY OUT OF SIGHT
