Geocache Description:

In 1924 a cupola style lookout house was constructed on an enclosed tower about ten feet high. This new lookout replaced the infamous lookout tree on Brush Mountain. It was manned by Dan Peterson for many years. In 1961 it was determined the lookout was no longer needed and it was burned to the ground. (Photo is from the Fire Lookout Museum photos - about 1942)

Today, you can still see the rocky pad under the lookout house. You can find rusty nails and spikes, pieces of glass melted by the fire, and have a grand view of Mt. Shasta. The trees have grown, blocking the view of the draws and surrounding area which the lookout protected. On the way back down the trail you have a beautiful view of Mt. McLoughlin.

The cache is hidden just a short distance from the rocky pad and well hidden from muggles. It is a regular size container with a log book and several trade items. Please rehide well.

To reach the site you need to drive out FS Road 640 which becomes Rd 600. From the parking area, hike out the old road about 1100' to the peak. This old site is at an elevation of 6300' so will not be accessible in the winter. The day we placed the cache there was a skiff of snow, adding to the beauty of the hike.
