Geocache Description:

****WARNING*****

This series is very muddy at present (April 2013). Suggest you may want to make the most of the dry months or take good wellies or boots!

Please note: record the the colour and letter of some of the log books you find in caches between 1 and 7 in order to solve number 8.

GW2 – Westerham is a series of 17 caches (15 traditional and two bonus puzzles) on a circular walk of around 6 miles from the town centre to Chartwell (the National Trust’s most visited property) and back, using parts of the Greensand Way, a long distance path that runs 108 miles from Haslemere in Surrey to
Hamstreet in Kent.

For navigation - the route will normally take the GW when there is a choice to be made. For the difficult section from 10 to 11, additional waymarks might help.

For more details on the Kent section of the Greensand Way please see: (visit link)

The walk could also be called “From Wolfe via Warde to Winston” as it starts near Quebec House - home and birthplace to General Wolfe in 1727 (another National Trust property and also passes through some of the land of Squerrys Court - a fine 17th manor house which has been the family home to the Wardes since 1731.

The caches are a variety of containers – all but two are large enough for pens, which they contained at the outset as well as small swaps and trackables.

Each is named after one of our favourites from Winston Churchill’s extensive collection of quotations – hope you enjoy them and the walk.

Please note that the paths are muddy – very muddy in places, but the paths should always be passable with good footwear.

It is a very dog-friendly circuit, with no stiles that need dog lifting.

The general terrain is quite up and down, it might be possible to cycle around, but it is not really designed for that and would certainly need a mountain bike or similar.

Please allow up to four hours, last time I took 3 3/4 hours with a few diversions – the caches are hopefully designed to be found easily to keep the momentum of the walk going, but with lots of tree cover, GPS reception may be patchy especially when the leaves are out.

There are lots of places to eat and drink in Westerham, and if you are National Trust supporters then you might fancy a detour half-way round to enjoy their refreshments or indeed to visit Chartwell - NT's most visited property.

Please note that you need to record the colours and letters of the ringbound log covers (or solve the puzzle) found in caches between 1-7 to get to the End.

And as the great man once said: “From now on, ending a sentence with a proposition is something up with which I will not put. “

Destiny: “It is a mistake to look too far ahead. The chain of destiny can only be grasped one link at a time.”
