Geocache Description:

Hopkinton LibraryThe cache isn't at the posted coordinates, but you need to start here to find the clues you need to retrieve the container.

This cache was placed in honor of the Hopkinton Public Library, which hosted our presentation about geocaching on August 25, 2010. Hopkinton has had a public library since 1867 and it was at this location next to a former church since 1895. A gallery was built to connect the library building with the adjacent Episcopal church after extensive renovation in 1967. This new section was named after the head librarian at the time, Mrs. Betty Strong. A special feature of the reading room is a stained glass window with a motif of a water fountain bubbling over an open book.

The library has temporarily moved to 65 South St., Suite 104, Hopkinton, MA 01748 while they gut and remodel this beautiful building!

To find the cache, you need to solve the following puzzle. All the answers can be easily obtained within the library on South Street and at the location on 135. Please note the hours, which at the time of this listing edit (5/17) were:

M, W, F: 10-8
T, Th: 10-5
Sat: 10-4 (September - May)

Closed on Saturdays in June, July and August. Also closed on New Years' Day, Martin Luther King Day, Presidents Day, Patriot's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day and weekend, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. These hours may change, so check the library's website before starting.

The cache can be found at the following coordinates:

N 42.AB.CDE
W 071.FG.HIJ

AB = The number of the page that shows a photo of the Hopkinton Honor Roll white monument in Images of America: Hopkinton (Dewey Call # 974.4 HOPPER)

CDE = the first three digits in the Dewey Call number for A Field Guide To The Ferns by Boughton Cobb.

FG = The number of letters in the inscription on the northward facing stained-glass window at the old library building on Rt. 135 minus 5.

HIJ = the first three digits in the Dewey Call number for The Pig Who Sang To The Moon: The Emotional World Of Farm Animals by Jeffrey Moussaieff Masson, divided by 4.

You can actually look up several of these clues in the online catalog, but we think you will have to visit the old library building for the FG clue. If you can find the cache without consulting that source, however, good for you!

You can check your answers for this puzzle on Geochecker.com.
