This is a Challenge Cache based on one of the first things we teach
our kids, the ABCs. Our daughter started her quest of knowledge
with the letter “O”; throughout our lives we embroider them on
Samplers, we eat them in soup, cereal and macaroni, we use them to
enumerate higher education, learn music and convey
information.
Here is your chance to meld the ABCs with geocaching-- a challenge
cache to work on. To claim this cache, you need to find and log 26
other caches, one for each letter of the alphabet. All caches must
be found in Oregon AFTER the publish date of this cache. Here’s the
process that you will have to follow to complete this Challenge:
1. Create a public bookmark called “ABC Challenge" :
• Include this cache in your bookmark; since you haven’t found
it yet, it doesn’t count – you will need another “A” cache
• Keep this bookmark public for a minimum of 3 months after
completing the challenge
• Include one Oregon state cache you have found for each letter of
the alphabet
• In the cache bookmark comments, include the date you found the
cache. Caches found before the publish date of this cache do not
qualify for this Challenge.
2. Successfully find and log caches (events are not valid for
this challenge) the names of which begin with each letter of the
alphabet. (26 caches) Examples:
The Cat’s Meow = T
Whiskers of the Cat = W
Marmalade Cat = M
Boots =B
“King of the Cats” = K
1 More Black Cat = Won’t count for this challenge cache!
One More Black Cat = O
A look at your alphabetized bookmark list will indicate whether or
not you have each letter.
3. Once you complete your list, post a note to this cache page
for final approval. We will verify your cache list and post a note
with authorization to go for the final cache. Please do not log a
find for this cache until you have received the
authorization.
4. The posted coordinates are not correct. They will get you to the
closest parking area to the actual cache. See the additional
Waypoints for the final cache location.
5. This cache has been given this particular difficulty ranking
because we have no idea which caches you may choose to do for this
challenge, it will take some time to complete, and some planning as
well.
We hope you enjoy this twist to our mutual
hobby/passion/obsession.
There is a FTF pin in the cache waiting for the first cachers to
complete this challenge. Also, bring your own writing
stick.

[view this log] | November 9 by 3MudDogs (1344 found) Well, I guess it just wasn't my day. First, I couldn't even get close; my Nuvi and handheld GPS got me within 300' of the cache, but there was a bunch of water between it and me. Drove over the bridge, found a different cache and then came back over the bridge. Then cursed myself for not googling the satellite view to figure out how to get there. Was just about to give up when I accidentally found the right road. Once I did all of that driving and wandering without rain, it started to rain just as I finally got on the right path to the cache. I didn't care; I was finally off. But then I arrived at GZ and couldn't come up with the cache. Looked for quite some time; tried all of the good hiding spots within 50' of GZ. Still no joy. Finally felt really bad for the little white dog who was shivering because she was just as wet as I was. Was highly disappointed after driving 165 mile round-trip just for this cache. I've driven quite a ways for a cache before; just never driven this far for a DNF. Will have to try again on a drier day. TFT challenge; I'll say TFT hunt once I actually find it!
[view this log] | November 7 by terrkan78 (616 found) I was approved to go for the final a month or so ago. Came to Albany today and gave it my best shot. I knew it was iffy at best - I don't usually find them without some idea as to size. I assumed it was a micro and scoured that thing well, then expanded my search to nearby "things." I'm wondering if the terrain rating applies to the final? In which case it's over my head (in more ways than one).
[view this log] | November 1 by Team Brown Cow (218 found) Took my dog along with Navalis to find this. He wanted this for his 300th cache and eventually he did find it! Didn't know these trails were back here so we'll be back with the dog again to explore them a bit more. Thanks for bringing us here!
