Geocache Description:

This cache is placed near Academic Hall at Southeast Missouri State University. This is the second in a series of caches on the campus, designed to give you a tour of the beautiful campus while also helping you make some quick and easy finds.

There's not much to this cache from a caching view point….it's just a very sentimental spot for me. I waited right here many times for a beautiful smile to come to me….and every time, she did.

From here, you can see the dome atop Academic Hall, the Serena Building, Carnahan Hall, Brandt Hall Of Music, Cheney Hall, and the Rosemary Berkel Crisp Hall of Nursing.

Academic Hall:
The building is adorned by light fixtures from the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair. The main floor is also decorated by mosaic tiles of bluebirds, which is the state bird of Missouri. The beautiful southeast Missouri limestone featured in its neo-classical design came from the quarry area where Houck Stadium stands today.

Serena Building:
Built between 1905 and 1909, Serena Building was named after Southeast’s eighth president, Joseph A. Serena and was originally built as the campus’s manual training facility. By the 1990’s, the building was the primary home to the University’s School for Polytechnic Studies.

Carnahan Hall:
The Social Science Building, now known as Carnahan Hall, was the first major classroom building on campus.Carnahan Hall is the oldest building on campus, originally constructed in 1901 as a science building. In 1998, the building was named after congressman and US ambassador Albert Carnahan. Albert was a Southeast alum and father to the late Governor Mel Carnahan.

Brandt Hall Of Music:
Brandt Music Hall sits on the hill overlooking the center of campus and the Golden Eagles Marching Band’s practice field. Completed in 1956, the original plans were to construct a science building. The building was named after J. Clyde Brandt, a longtime professor of music at Southeast.

Cheney Hall:
Named after the University’s first president Lucius Cheney, who was accidentally killed in a Harvard Archeological dig in 1876, Cheney Hall is conveniently located in the middle of campus and houses 121 students.

Rosemary Berkel Crips Hall of Nursing:
Crisp Hall used to be the University High School, a lab for secondary education majors. Originally the Training School, this limestone building was built between 1921 and 1923. The flood of 1922 delayed construction.

This cache is a micro. You don't need to leave the pavement, and it is completely wheelchair accessible. Stealth is required, since this is a high traffic area when school is in session. Please bring a pen or pencil to sign the log, and please put it back in the exact same spot where you retrieved it. Permission to place this cache was given by the Director of Facilities Management.
