Geocache Description:

Fairly steep uphill road onto narrow footpath

Congratulations to Bussage Bog Hoppers for being First to Find

THIS ONE SEEMS TO CAUSE A FEW PROBLEMS ' USE THE CLUE'.

This cache is in the parish of Randwick a small old style village retaining much of the traditional English values. People living in the parish of Randwick can claim the title of being a Runnicker which is believed to have originated from the original old English pronunciation of Randwick.
The village has become well known over the years for mainly 2 traditions.
Both traditions are to the credit of the Late Reverend Niall Morrison a well-known character who tragically died in 1991

The 1st tradition is the Randwick Wap.
This is a ancient village custom which is held on the 2nd Saturday in May each year and was re-introduced in 1972 by Rev Morrison. This custom dates back to medieval times but was abandoned in 1893 due to raucus behaviour.
Part of the custom is the 'chusing'of a Mayor and Wap Queen who are carried down through the village to the Mayors Pool where the official ceremony of 'ducking the mayor' is carried out. This is followed by a Cheese rolling ceremony whereby cheeses (which have been blessed & rolled around the church 3 times on the previous Sunday) are rolled down a steep bank called Well Leaze.
If ever you haven't paid a visit to the Wap - put it in your diary for next year - well worth a visit.

The 1st issue of the Randwick Runner was published in July 1962 by Rev Morrison and is still being published weekly today. It also has a monthly magazine & church magazine & holds the title of being the longest constantly running village magazine in the country. It simply provides news of Randwick and current topics.

This cache is the first in Randwick. There are options as to how far to walk to get to this cache and could even be described as a cache & dash. There are a number of suggestions for parking dependent on how far you wish to walk.
Parking is available near to the church 51'45.547N 002'15.058W (longer walk) or on road parking around 51'45'191 N 002.15.130W but please be sensible due to the hill. On walking up Ash Lane please be aware of traffic up to the woods & the occasional horse.
After finding the cache there are 2 village pubs to recommend The Carpenters Arms near to 2nd parking & The Vine Tree at the top of the village. Both have fantastic views & food - company isn't bad either!
Once finding the cache walk on a short way cross the stile for a fantastic view towards Stroud & the 5 valleys

This cache is situated on a public narrow footpath, which may become muddy in the winter. Suitable for wheelchairs & buggies but may have a bit of a push if parking at 2nd location. This can be done as a cache & dash but please do not block driveways.
Cache is a container originally containing
England Flag,
10th anniversary comic relief pin badge,
Trowel,
Bug hair scrunchie,
cd rom,
Hot Fuzz & Gloucestershire Great Flood TB's
