Geocache Description:

A park and grab--IF you are on a bike or a kayak. Otherwise a flat, easy walk.

I like most anything that looks like a zebra or bears a zebra-striped pattern. But there is one thing I don't like--ZEBRA MUSSELS!

The Zebra mussel is a bivalve mussel native to freshwater lakes of southeast Russia. Zebra mussels get their name from the striped pattern on their shells.

In 1988 the zebra mussel was first identified in the United States in Lake St. Clair of the Great Lakes region. It is believed that the emptying of ballast water from commercial transatlantic ships introduced the mussel into the Great Lakes. Since then, zebra mussels have spread throughout the interconnected waterways in the eastern U.S. and were confirmed in Lake Champlain during the summer of 1993.

Adult zebra mussels can now be found throughout much of Lake Champlain and the lower reaches of many of the lake's tributaries. In 1998 adult zebra mussels were discovered in Lake Bomoseen in Hubbarton and Castleton, Vermont.

I like to swim just to the right of this cache site because the water is so clear. Then a few days ago I saw WHY the water is so clear..thousands of zebra mussels. They clean the lake, but they eat everything, even things we (and fish) need for the balance of the lake.

If you are seeking this cache when the temperature is over 80 degrees you might see me swimming to the right...away from the mussels.

It goes without saying, but I will say it anyway, the longevity of this cache depends greatly upon your returning it as you found it. It is a little bigger than a small but smaller than a large, lock 'n lock.

IF YOUR HAIR IS GETTING TANGLED IN LOW HANGING TREE BRANCHES,,,,YOU ARE IN THE RIGHT PLACE
