Don't let the bold type above intimidate you from this cache. It's
just there for fun. My fun.
The title describes this experience in two contexts.
This long-time Lebanon landmark can be seen in many parts of
town, especially at night during the last few weeks of each year.
Don't block the gate. Be ready for an immediate and substantial
(500' +/-) elevation gain for the first third of your .85 mile hike
to the cache. The last couple of hundred feet are kinda weedy, but
you can avoid the blackberries the entire way (Pablo Mac wore
shorts, but he's a hard-corps hiker). You may encounter poison oak,
so a hiking staff or machete (Pablo Mac prefers an Ontario Knife
20") may be useful. Hydrate or wish you had (or worse). Pay
attention to your GPS for the two trail changes you will encounter,
or you may hike a little extra (not that that's a bad thing). Plan
at least an hour to & from your cachemobile.
When you arrive at the cache site, be sure to enjoy the view
(great place for a picnic and ?), and feel free to engage in the
activity that the landmark inspires. Return often, if only in your
heart. Consider 1 Corinthians 13:13. Share it.
A video segment on the placement of this cache was featured in
Icenrye's Videozine #10.
NOTE 10/21/04: Pablo Mac & son went for a nice hike
up here this afternoon and made a little maintenance visit to this
cache. We upgraded it to a small RubberMaid-esque container and
included a real logbook.
NOTE 7/24/05: The "No Tresspassing" signs refer to the
land to either side of the gravel road, but not the road itself,
nor the trail to the, uh...landmark near the cache, as I was told
by one of the landowners of the hill.
NOTE 12/31/05: The "No Trespassing" signs are gone, and
I'll be visiting the cache site soon to verify its status. This
location is very well worth keeping as an active cache site, and is
worth the wait and effort!
NOTE 3/4/06: The "No Tresspassing" signs are back, but I
finally have the definitive word on Plagman (also known as Horse)
Butte: the out-of-state landowner of this property put up the "No
Trespassing" sign at the gate strictly to keep motorized vehicles
out. Mountain bikers and hikers are fully welcome to do their thing
here in a peaceful and safe manner. If you found this cache
prior to this date and want to visit again, feel free to log a
second "Found It" log. Enjoy!
