The cache is amidst the trees on the wooded hill that overlooks the
Bell's Close Park.
When the Midland Mainline railways was constructed, GNR needed to
build through a public area known as "The Great Moor."
As compensation to the population of Luton, the developer - John
Crawley - bought some land and donated it to the townspeople. This
became "The People's Park."
It has had something of a renaissance over the past couple of
years, including the construction of a modern playpark, and 'trim
trail' around the perimeter.
More on this here: (visit link)
Despite the improvements - and perhaps due its proximity to the
popular Wardown Park - it's a very quiet park, and even fewer
people head up the hill to enjoy the impressive view of Luton that
can be seen at the summit.
Parking is free at the small car-park off Havelock Road - the roads
directly nearby have recently changed to 'permit holders only'
Monday to Friday which is a shame, but we tend to go up the hill to
one of the small side roads during the week, where there are no
limitations.
So.. to the cache. It's in an aluminium flask, in a fleecy
camouflage jacket. We hid it a little way off the path - as you're
ascending the hill on the right hand side of the footpath, there
are some shallow steps; turn right toward the young trees, just
before the path splits.
Hope you can find it - it's our first Geocache, so any hints to
make it better would be much appreciated.
