Gubbool & the Constant Apprentice’s
Most Excellent Adventure
Chapter Four in the series “Gubbool’s Most
Excellent Adventures.”
A seven part story based on the true experiences of Gubbool while
living on Oak Mountain.
Be sure to stand on the nearby boulder and look back toward the
galleria. From here you can see clear across the park -
north-south
For years and years and years I have sucessfully avoided giving
even partial credit of my fame to my constant apprentice,
Nander-the-Flat-Lander.
She has never learned the higher art of using a gps’r; she
never learned to show interest in the hunt for longer than ten
minutes; and, she never learned to trustingly accept the driving
instructions that I offered from the passenger’s seat of her
rusty red Mustang.
However, it is true that several of my coveted first-to-finds would
not have been possible without her and her rust bucket. On
occassion she played a vital role in distracting the
johnny-come-late old boy hiker; and, she did find more than a
couple before I could figure it out and wrapped my hand around the
prize*.
And so, in memory and with proper acknowledgement, I declare:
though one may think that he is somebody, most likely the truth is
that he would have been just another also-ran if it were not for
somebody with a red car, good eyes, and eternal patience.
*Disclaimer: I adhered to the standing rule in the Land of PHAH
whereas a trainee cannot claim a FTF unless it is witnessed by two
cachers and one of which, is not the trainer.
Required Action:
To find the cache will have to first get some numbers from a sign
and then do some really difficult math.
A. Go to the Sign at the posted coordinates.
B. Gather the digits on the sign and sum them together.
Caution:
Think in terms of digits - not numbers, ie. The year 1927 is four
digits.
C. Multiply the answer of step B by 8.
Complete the following easy math for new coordinates:
N33 20.(592 + answer from step C)
W86 41.(761 + answer from step C)
Cache should be something less than two miles away from the white
metal sign.
In fact, the end point is -- NEAR -- N33 20.581 W86 41.952
