Eight geocaches have been placed in Dayton Canyon by Kurious Kate and Lady Lamont. Fire In September 2005 ravaged this area. Several caches survived and the others have been replaced. Look for CHUMASH CAVE, ROCKY ROAD, SAVORY SAGE, SEARED SUMAC, SUPER STAPLE, AND SYCAMORE SANCTUARY. Two new ones, AQUA OBSCURA AND THE MATRIACH were added January 25, 2007.
There have been changes in the Dayton Canyon area the past year. The proposed development to the east, which had blocked off the lower access, has apparently stalled due to a variety of environmental problems. The property is now For Sale. We walked out the lower end of the canyon through cuts in the fence and out the road leading to Valley Circle. There was no one at security and the gate was wide open.

There is another exit from lower Dayton Canyon which heads NE up the hill and exits at Deerlick Road and Valley Circle. This could also be used as an entrance. Kurious Kate and I parked a car at VC and another one at Upper Dayton to avoid backtracking. Easy parking at N 34 14.092, W 118 39.546.

SAVORY SAGE is located on a small canyon off the main path. The fire destroyed all the sage so the cache was moved slightly and is no longer nestled in its original hiding place. It is a small container but shouldn't be too hard to find!!

Found it after bounding through some light brush. The cache is intact though a tad warped from the sun's ultraviolent rays...somewhat like yours truly!

The cache was below the actual "nest" when I checked on it today. It is now back in place and ready to be found again!
