A walk through the Red Gum forest that leads to views of Tuggerah Lake and the mountains beyond.
In 1965 the construction of Wilfred Barrett Drive brought sandminers into this area. In a series of disputes between 1968 and 1976 the North Entrance Preservation Society fought in the courts to save the area from sandmining. While the eastern side was mined and is now slowly regenerating, the Red Gum Forest was saved. In 1984 a group of Central Coast conservationists established a Wyrrabalong Committee, which together with the North Entrance Preservation Society successfully lobbied for gazettal of the two areas as a national park in 1991.
My first trips to the park were as a teenager to participate in orienteering events that were held amongst the network of walking tracks. Around the same time my high school Geography teacher was a member of the Wyrrabalong Committee and I remember his passion for conserving the area well.
The well marked walking tracks will lead you straight to the caches location.
