Geocache Description:

This cache is hidden a short distance along a forestry track just off the B4228 Chepstow to Coleford Road. This is the edge of the Forest of Dean and the cache is positioned for ease of access. As with any forest, under foot can be muddy at times

Parking for this can be found at 51 41.9946N 2 38.3396W and is only a 5minute walk to the cache. This is a double width ammo box containing various bits all connected with nature.... Not far from the cache is the King Yew. This is purported to be the oldest tree in the Royal Forest. Don't confuse the very young Yew tree near the cache with the King Yew.... this is one impressive tree and if you have 10 minutes extra its worth the small walk. Carry on past the cache 75m and take the left off the main track, follow this track for about 100m and take the first proper trail into the wood on your RIGHT. Follow this trail for 200m ( *) whereupon reaching a post with a white top, turn left immediately after it following the trail for about 100m and in front will be the King Yew. The coords are 51 41.9346N 2 37.7799W. It is an incredibly interesting tree to look at, and we think is worth the visit. * When we walked along this track after hiding the cache my mum pointed out some strange goings on just off this section of the track.... there was a circle of cut off logs - seats? and sticks made into the shapes of hexs..... witches? or students? who knows......Hope you enjoy the cache and the area. The name Maxi is from my mum who had this cache for her birthday and a TB which is also called Maxi TB. Maxi was our dog who died many years ago but loved the walks in the woods as home is just a short walk away. There are many footpaths through the woods and using the surrounding lanes some great circular walks can be had with views overlooking the Severn. The Gloucester Way is also not far from this cache.
