Geocache Description:

This cache is located in the Parque Metropolitano La Sabana, also known as the Lungs of San Jose. It was officially inaugurated in 1977, though its land was donated by Father Manuel Antonio Chapui de Torres in 1783.

For more than 150 years it began to develop its characteristic vegetation until it was turned into the country's first international airport in 1940 under the government of Leon Cortes, who's statue can be found on the east side of the park. La Sabana International Airport was in service until 1955 when it was transferred to its current location in Alajuela, but it continued to serve as a terminal for light traffic and private planes until it was re-instituted as a park during the 70s.

Among the park's most attractive elements are the National Stadium, the Maria del Milagro Paris Pool, the lakes, the gyms, and the Museum of Costa Rican Art. With over 72 acres of land and approximately 30,000 visitors each week, there's no doubt that La Sabana Metropolitan Park is the most important park in San Jose.

This nanocache is a tiny, magnetic, black cylinder located at the heart of the lake. Look for the whale and you'll be well on your way to finding it. Please be sure to Bring Your Own Pen (BYOP) for this cache.
