Geocache Description:

The Luxulyan Valley is a place of breathtaking natural beauty, with thickly wooded terrain and steep granite slopes surrounding the fast-flowing River Par and contains an extraordinary concentration of early 19th century industrial remains, unique in South West Britain. It is also home to a large number of rare mosses, ferns and fungi.

This cache can be completed in conjunction with 'Looking for Gold'(GCN50K), 'Tramway Bonus'(GCN50N) and 'Two in One'(GCN57A)

The cache (2l box)is a multi cache that will take you on a circular tour of the valley, discovering many of its secrets. A booklet, published by ‘The Friends of Luxulyan Valley’ (price £2.50 from some local shops), makes this walk into a fascinating glimpse of the valley’s history.Click to link to the Friends of Luxulyan Valley Home Page
The co-ordinates given are for (free)parking at Pont’s Mill (just off the A390) N 50º 22.398, W004º 42.699. Nearby (N50º22.429, W004º42.702) you will find an Environment Agency board with a name, telephone number and an sx grid reference. Letter the numbers in alphabetic order. You will need to make a copy of these numbers as they will be required for each location.

Tel. no. ABCD EF GHIJ,
SX no. KLMN OPQR
How many bolts are used to fix the board? = S
How many times can you see the word 'DANGER' whilst looking at this board? = T
How many letters are there in the name on the board? = U

There are 4 locations. At the first 3 there are wooden markers, marked with 8 letters the first 4 letters represent the last 4 figures of the N co-ordinate (e.g.N50º 2A.BCD) and the second 4 letters represent the last 4 figures of the W co-ordinate (e.g.W004º 4E.FGH)
From the Environment Agency Board proceed to the Valley Information board on the other side of the pathway. It would be very useful to note the layout of the paths in the valley, as each location is only a few metres from a main pathway. You do not have to stray from the paths between each location. From the Information Board proceed to:-

N50º 2T.USM, W004º 4S.JUP

to find the first wooden marker.
Now your on your own! (The steep sided and heavily wooded nature of the valley make GPS signals unreliable so do use the clues)

As the cache site is visible from a pathway, please re-hide the cache and try to make it blend in naturally. Because of some poor re-hiding, the cache has been found several times by walkers in the valley.
