History of Hédervár
Wolfger came from Germany together with his brother and 300 armoured worriers. They came from the shire of Hainburg. The sovereign Géza gave them the hill of Küszén and the island by Györ as everlasting accommodation. They built a castle and on the hill a monastery where he is buried to. He founded the dynasty of Héder.
Gespan Héder is the eponym of the village. He got judge at the royal’s court of Géza II. Dezsö, a famous family member, changed his clothes with King Karl Robert at the campaign of Havaslföld and saved the kings live through it. As well as ecclesiastical and as secular dignitaries came from the Héder family. For example: Johannes and Ladislaus were bishop of Györ and Eger. Lorenz had been paladin of the king Sigmund. When Lorenz died in 1658 no inheritor of the Héderváry family was left. Emperor and king Leopold I. accepted the title of inheritance of Lady Viczay Katalin (born Héderváry Katalin), sister of Lorenz.
The crests were combined and the name Viczay-Héderváry recorded. 1873 died the branch Viczay of the family tree to. The inheritor was a daughter stirps again. Khuen Károly united the crests again and took the name Khuen-Héderváry. They had been the owner of Hédervár till 1945.
History of the castle
Knight Héder built a wooden castle at the mid of the 12. Century at the end of the castle park. The building was destroyed during the campaign of the Tartar. King Béla IV build numerous castle and residence tower. At the year 1521 Héderváry Ferenc lost the manor due to disloyalty, but the title was given back later to Héderváry János. He built the castle at the renaissance style. The actual baroque style comes form the second half of the 18. Century.
Thanks to the English Petri Bernard the actual park was built. You can find many exotic plants, such as the Chinese Gingko and American tulips.
The earl of Hédervár was dispossessed in 1945. 1947 the castle was given to the public and a school for the children of the nearby village moved in. From 1983 the castle was used as hideaway for artists. Between 2002 and 2004 the castle was carefully rebuilt and a hotel with beautiful rooms and suits was setup.
History of the geocache ;-)
One of my first geocache I was looking for was hidden in the park of Hédervár. A couple of days before I was at the given address a team of lumberjack made their work and destroyed the cache. Even I was not successful to find the cache I was happy that it brought me to Hédervár. The cache was deleted at www.geocaching.com later. I think this place must have a cache and many people should come and walk trough the park. May you enjoy the time in Hédervár as I enjoyed it here.

Usefull informations
P.S.: I f you are careful you can walk in to the castle and see some of the common rooms. It’s worth.
P.S.S.: If you don't trust the bridge... Jump... If you don't want to jump.... Walk trough the water (30 - 50 cm).... Geocaching is not a Sunday afternoon walk always.
version 2.0 (01.08.2010): New cache box at a new hiding place with new logbook (old was wet) and a different camouflage. The cache got new coords too (just a couple of meters).
version 3.0 (14.09.2013): New cache box with new logbook. I rated it a bit higher due to the bade state of the bridge.
version 4.0 (24.08.2014): New cache box with new logbook. I rated it a bit higher due to the broken bridge.
