No 1 of a series of caches from the site of Franklin mill, Biggleswade, a water mill now converted to apartments and Holme mill, nr Langford, now owned by Jordans Ltd, the cereal and crunchy bar maker.
Please use extra stealth when retrieving this nano size cache as this a high muggle area.
Franklin Mill, Biggleswade
There has been a water mill on this site for over 1000 years . Henry Franklin, already a coal merchant, became the miller in 1883. After a fire in 1945, the building was restored but used as a warehouse. In 1959 the business became Daigaty Franklin ltd. The mill was converted to apartments in 1982.
Holme Mill
This mill, first mentioned in the Doomsday book, was purchased by Mr William Herbert Jordan in 1855. It produced flour until 1972. After burning down in 1899, the buildings original millstones were replaced with a more efficient roller system that could retain more goodness in the grain.
In 1972, W. Jordan (Cereals) Ltd, the present-day company, was formed, producing breakfast cereals and bars, based on Granola.
The series provides a one mile scenic walk along the river Ivel with lots of opportunities to spot wildlife along the way.
