Geocache Description:

The Texas Theater, when opened in 1931, was the largest suburban theater in Dallas, seating 2,000. It was also the first theater in town with air conditioning and was part of a chain of theaters once owned by Howard Hughes.

On November 22, 1963, after allegedly assassinating President John F. Kennedy, Lee Harvey Oswald took a bus into Oak Cliff. Soon after his arrival at a nearby bus stop Oswald reportedly shot and killed Officer J.D. Tippett and fled into the Texas Theater where he was captured.

As you probably know, Oswald never had his day in court as he was killed by Dallas nighclub owner Jack Ruby a few days after his apprehension here at the theater. Guilty or not? We may never know.

The theater has been recently revived as a concert venue and they also show indie movies and documentaries.

As of November 2012 there is now a historical marker at the theater.

To log this cache as a Find email me how many amps and how many volts the Delta sign on the front of the theater is rated for.
