I love rockpiles like this one. They are so fun to walk around
on and this one has a great view.
The rocks are also covered with cool-looking lichen. Many years ago,
while on a hike with the San Diego Natural History Museum, the
Naturalist explained how this symbiotic relationship first got
started millennia ago. While an algae traveled slowiy up one side
of a rock, a fungus traveled slowly up the other side. When they
met at the top, they took a "like'n'" to each other.
I first discovered this spot when I tried to find
Bubbles the hard way.
This cache can be accessed via "rabbit trails" from parking at
the Lake Murray Tennis Club north of
Coyote Condo or from public access at the end of Dwayne Avenue
near N° 32 47.109 W° 117 02.979.
The cache is partially visible and is not under the
"artificial pile of rocks," but it is close by.
Please be cautious in the warm months. Snakes might call these
rocks home.
