Hello, welcome to Portlethen community woodland. Did you know this woodland used to be a field? This woodland is caring for Fishermoss Primary’s Geocache.
You may of noticed strange foam on plants and bushes? It is cuckoo spit. It’s the shelter of a small bug. The cuckoo bug spits out the foam around it self to protect its self. If you pick up the foam and wipe it away you might find a small green, orange or other coloured bug.
This woodland spot is popular for dog walking or just for fun. It’s also a great picnic spot. As well as wildlife there has been trees and plants planted by local schools. The amphitheatre, alligator rocks, logs and picnic spots were put in Summer 2011 .The Pirate Ship was put in later on in the year.
The woodland became a woodland in 2006. While the Academy was being built there were many trees lost but they have been replaced by even more trees than there was before! By the end of the year the woodland community think there will be 8000 trees!
Please have fun looking for P6\7 Bs Geocache! And remember this woodland is beautiful so try to pick up dog mess. Have fun.
