Ramapo West - Jumble of Rocks Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

ramapo: Nine plus years is a pretty good run. It has been time to archive this one for awhile so I am clearing the forest in keeping with the new edict. Thanks to all who searched and found. Cache has been removed. Pretty quick find considering I had little memory or where it was hidden!

Geocache Description:

I came upon this jumble of rocks, just begging for a cache, while following a mountain bike trail.

You can combine this cache with Fractured Rock for a nice hike while spending a couple of hours exploring this interesting area of Ramapo State Forest.

I came upon this spot while following a trail evidently created and maintained by mountain bikers. It is complete with some rather amazing plywood ramps and jumps...they went to some trouble to cart this stuff in. I find it hard to believe that anybody actually goes off these ramps without sustaining serious bodily injury.

If you hit this cache on the way back from Fractured Rock, you should take the second unmarked trail off the carraige road. If you hit the pipeline you took the wrong trail.

You'll find a couple of spots along the bike trail that require a bit of planning to get past. I'm not sure how the bikers do it because I had to be careful on foot. Perhaps they just shoot over or off the obstacles. There's nothing you can't get around but this isn't a TC trail.

You'll pass a few nice spots along the way. The climax of the bike trail is at N41 01.875 W074 16.705. If you take a different route from the above, be sure to check this out... these bikers are a bit crazy. It is just a short distance from the cache.

The most direct approach to the cache is from the Indian Rock trail. This requires a short bushwhack of a few hundred feet. Indian Rock trail can be picked up off the Cannonball or from Back Beach park in Wanaque.

The cache is a smallish container, well hidden amongst the rocks. Careful...some of the rocks are not stable.

Please rehide carefully so that container is not exposed.
