Geocache Description:

You will need a 4WD to attend this event. Terrain will range from 1 for the drive to Inskip Point to 3.5 for the drive to the campsite and 4.5 for the drive to Sandy Cape.

Recently we participated in a 4WD event to clean up Fraser Island, in company with Xixau & Shenzi and The Four Bears. The weekend was a huge success which led to discussions of holding a geocaching event to the top end of Fraser Island. While we're there, we may as well pick up some of the rubbish that has washed up on the Cape. Bring your own plastic bags and gloves for the clean-up. There is a QPWS waste transfer station at Orchid Beach to dispose what has been collected.

The drive to Sandy Cape can be challenging. This event provides an opportunity to make the trip in company of others who may be more experienced with 4WDs. As they say - safety in numbers. We will be using channel 15 on the UHF to maintain contact with the group.

The plan is as follows:-

Saturday - depart 7.00am from BP Morayfield Northbound and set up camp at Waddy Point / Orchid Beach - clean up general area and explore at leisure

Sunday 4 May - depart after breakfast for Sandy Cape - have lunch and clean up any rubbish found at the Cape

Monday 5 May - break camp, ensuring no rubbish remains in the area and return home at leisure.

Tides for the weekend are:-

3 May
L 0.59m 12.09am H 2.19m 5.50am
L 0.33m 12.30pm H 2.32m 6.40pm

4 May
L 0.48m 12.57am H 2.16m 6.40am
L 0.26m 1.40pm H 2.48m 7.25pm

5 May
L 0.43m 2.01am H 2.09m 7.35am
L 0.23m 2.00pm H 2.59m 8.12pm

Vehicle and camping permits can be obtained at ; www.epa.qld.gov.au Camping permits must be obtained in advance. There are other accommodation options available at Orchid Beach, where food can also be purchased. We have booked our tent site in the Waddy Point Campground area as there are shower and toilet facilities available there.

So come along and enjoy the fun, clean up the beach, and get more experience in that 4WD!
