Geocache Description:

Access to GZ is a short easy walk.

Doctor James Still, a legend of the Pines, had his office and home at this location. Dr. Still was born April 9, 1812 in nearby Indian Mills, NJ. His parents were runaway slaves and his childhood consisted of heavy farm work and only 3 months of schooling. He became a great reader and investigated the healing powers of herbs and other plants. Young James learned from the Indians about plants, wild herbs, roots and leaves that healed. He shared in their knowledge, recording the facts on how to make tonics, balms, salves and extracts. Early NJ settlers came from miles around to be treated by Dr. Still. It was said he could even cure cancer in the 1800's. He was beloved by the people of the Pines as a man of great heart and compassion, especially for children in his care. No distance was too great for Doctor Still to travel, no case too hopeless, no hour was too late.

The State of NJ, through the Green Acres program, purchased the property in January of 2006. Should you want to take a photo of the location, a good place to park (across the street) will put you within easy distance of the cache, which is not on the historic site. This is a small cache so please bring your own pen. FTF will win a Gold Bermuda Coin. Cache safely and if you cross the street be careful. Please, no pictures of the cache or cache location and replace it as found. Pictures of the historic property are welcomed.
