Geocache Description:

The church of Agios Efstathios was built in the 12th century, although important repairs and conversions have been done to it during the middle of the 15th century.

It seems that it was used by the knights of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem (Knights Hospitallers) -owners of the castle nearby -because the coat of arms of their Grand Commander, Louis-de-Magnac, was still extant upon the arch of the church until 1930. The same coat of arms exists on various point of the castle. Indeed, it is probable that the same knights -because of the military status of the saint and his Latin descent -gave the name of St. Efstathios to the Byzantine church that pre-existed.

It's a very pretty little church and interesting inside; the key is held by the lady of the house next to the church - if you see her on her porch, or in her garden she'll happily open for you and give you the full history but only in Greek. She's very knowledgeable and will point out all the wonderful features, of which there are many. If your Greek isn't quite up to the job then more information can be found here, and yes, it's where I pinched the first part of the listing!

The cache here will be prone to muggling due to the proximity of homes overlooking the site - please take the time to read the hint; we've made the hide and the hint very specific in order to minimise the time you take to find this and to hopefully extend the life of the cache. We really don't want to have to resort to a micro in a bush.
