Geocache Description:

Second of two caches located on a hiking trail north of Vermilion Bay's biggest tourist attraction - Fort Vermilion.

The Fort was built in 1972 and is a replica of a Hudson Bay trading post that used to stand on the shore of nearby Eagle Lake during the fur trading era and admission is free! It's open Victoria Day to Labour Day weekends but the trail can be accessed year round. Parking is available at N49 51.557 W093 23.085 but the lot is not maintained in the winter. Trail head is along the back wall of the Fort at N49 51.564 W093 23.025. The cache is an ammo box less than (or more than if you go the wrong way!) a kilometer/half mile up the trail at the first scenic lookout. The hike is well worth it for the view alone and wildlife in the area is also quite common. The trail has been upgraded in recent years and is now part of the Trans-Canada Trail. Make sure you re-hide the cache well as this is the third and probably last ammo box.
