Este caché forma parte de una serie de cachés alrededor de Villamanrique, un pueblo al sur de Ciudad Real. El objetivo de estos cachés es dar a conocer este bonito pueblo injustamente olvidado.
This cache forms part of a series of caches around Villamanrique, a village to the south of Ciudad Real. The aim of these caches is to show you this beautiful village which has been unfairly forgotten.
Torres de Xoray, también conocido como Eznavexore. Se trata de una fortaleza de época musulmana, situada en lo alto de un cerro. Su estado actual, francamente ruinoso, poco delata la importancia que este enclave pudo tener en su día. Fue una de las fortalezas que dominaba el Valle del Alto Guadalén y, encargada de controlar el tráfico entre la Mancha y Andalucía. No quedan restos de murallas aunque pueden reconocerse aún los límites del castillo. Éste tendría una forma más o menos rectangular con torres que guardarían ambos lados. De ellas, sólo quedan en pie dos, pero podemos observar los vestigios de otras. Tuvo su mayor auge durante la primera mitad del siglo XIII.
La leyenda dice que una hermosísima joven musulmana estaba enamorada de un caballero que fue a las cruzadas. El caballero le prometió que volvería el día de San Juan para desposarse con ella. El caballero no volvió y la hermosa joven, todos los amaneceres del 24 de junio aparece por el lugar de la cita para reunirse con su amado.
Para llegar al caché:
El caché se encuentra en el lugar conocido como El Estrecho de las Torres, a medio camino entre los pueblos de Villamanrique y Torre de Juan Abad. Se puede dejar el coche en la zona del puente viejo, cuyas coordenadas son N38º 33.891 W003º 02.126. A partir de ahí comienza la subida a pie del cerro. Aconsejamos no subirlo en línea recta, sino bordearlo.
Desde arriba del todo podréis ver una panorámica de toda la zona, el comienzo de Sierra Morena hacia el sur y el final (o comienzo) de la Mancha por el norte.
The Towers of Xoray are also known as Eznavexore. The site was a fortress in the Muslim period of rule, situated at the top of a hill. It is now in ruins, but in the past it was extremely important. It was one of the fortresses which dominated the 'Valle del Alto Guadalén' and was in charge of controlling the traffic between la Mancha and Andalucía. The remains of the walls aren't there anymore but you can still see the boundaries of the castle. The site had a more or less rectangular form with towers that guarded both sides. Only two of these towers remain, but you can see traces of others. This fortress was at its peak during the first half of the 13th Century.
The legend says that a young beautiful Muslim girl fell in love with a knight who went on the crusades. The knight promised her that he would return the day of San Juan to get married to her. However the knight never returned and it said that each year the young girl appears in the area at dawn on the 24th of June to meet her beloved.
To get to the cache:
The cache is in a place called The Strait of the Towers, halfway between the villages of Villamanrique and Torre de Juan Abad. You can leave the car near to the old bridge, whose coordinates are N38º 33.891 W003º 02.126. From here the walk begins to the top of the hill. It is recommended not to try and climb in a straight line following the GPS, but going around the outside where the slope is less steep. From the top of the hill you will have fantastic views of the area, including the beginning of the Sierra Morena towards the south and the end (or beginning) of la Mancha to the north.
