This registered historic site was the temporary home of an Italian hermit, Giovanni Maria Augustini, who lived here for a brief period in the spring of 1863. Later that year, the religious mystic left with a wagon train, walking the 500 miles to New Mexico.

The cache is not in the cave. It is approximately half way down the hill from the cave. It is a Tupperware type container with a screw on lid. It originally contained a logbook, pencil, pencil sharpener (please do not take), whistle, a deck of playing cards, a toy car and an orange safety vest. It is very well hidden as kids often play in the area. Please make sure that you cover it well.

November 8 by Bridger and Colter (80 found)
Can you believe this weather? 70 degrees out in november! The Bridger and Colter and Pippi team really enjoyed this and took the white Tail travel bug and left a coin and a Emporia City Pin. On a return trip we will stop by and leave a different travel bug from our area. I took lots of pictures and will post later. This is find number #65 for our team, If you like caves and tunnels, besure to check out the tunnel cache series in Emporia Kansas by Gumshoetully.

It was cool to see the cave. I've been to CG many times but did not know about that. That monk was a different kind of guy, eh?
