Come Away For Awhile.... Traditional Cache
campyc: This is definitely gone. It should have survived fire, but is not where I hid it. Perhaps it slid down the steep hill....who knows. Since the property is closed, this cache is archived until and if the monastery is rebuilt.

NOTE: This area (and, sadly the Monastery) burned in the Tea Fire November 13, 2008. Since the cache is an ammo box, it probably survived but it will be a while before I can check on it.
Medium-size ammo can off Gibralter Rd., high above Santa Barbara.
Cache is near Mt Calvary Retreat House, a small Anglican (which is my faith - it's not Catholic) Benedictine monastery known for its hospitality to all travelers. The Monastery is CLOSED on Mondays; you can access the cache w/o going to the monastery, but I suggest you stop by the book store (Tu-Sun, 9am-5pm) and wander around the beautiful grounds. Check out their website - www.mount-calvary.org.
If you're not going to the monastery, park outside the gate and walk along the monastery road to the trailhead on your left, just past the white pipe bridge. Check out the rock labyrinth (this is the 3rd cache I've hidden near a labyrinth) just past the trailhead, toward the great house.
You can also access GC24B5 cache; just inside the monastery driveway off Gibralter, look for a narrow unlocked gate on your right (just beyond the locked gate going up a paved road); descend into Rattlesnake Canyon and the cache is quite close to the trail junction. The monks usually leave a hiking stick at the gate for your comfort and safety.
