Definition:
Flash Mob (FLASH mawb) n. A large group of people who gather
in a usually predetermined location, perform some brief
action, and then quickly disperse.
You've heard of mega-events? Here's
the opposite. Flash mobs have gathered for other reasons but
rarely before for geocaching.
The WWFMs (World Wide Flash Mobs) are coordinated geocaching events
that take place simultaneously at locations across the
globe.
This event is open to Geocachers & their
families, friends, groupies and/or assorted hanger-ons. The larger
the turnout, the better. The looks on all the surrounding muggles
faces will be priceless!
To make this event even more
fun, we would like to see everyone dressed as wacky as they
possibly can be. Remember, it's Downtown Las Vegas, no one will
notice. Just think Crazy Tourists!
This event will
begin precisely at 10:00 AM PDT on Saturday, May 10, 2008 and will
last exactly 15 minutes.
To claim this event you must be present and sign
the log sheet DURING the sign in process which will take place ONLY
in the first few minutes following the start time.
For that reason, I strongly suggest you arrive
up to 15 minutes in advance.
Official Event
Itinerary
9:45 -
9:59
Use this time frame as your arrival to the area but do not gather
and stay away from the ground zero coordinates (feel free to arrive
sooner if you like). Mill about and wander. Be nonchalant and
casual. Look like a muggle. Don't look like a gathering waiting to
happen. Blend in to the area as realistically as you can. This is
part of the fun. We will seem to appear out of
no-where.
10:00 - 10:05
At precisely 10:00 you will see Signal the Frog walk out to GZ
(Ground Zero) with two very obvious tourists, they will all begin
waving everyone in.
This is the "Signal" that the event has begun! (Get it?)
At this time you must quickly make your way to Signal and line up
to receive a log sheet, this will be an index card which will form
the log book and also serve as your drawing entry later. (Only ONE
log page per team please)
The drawing will be for a FTF winner of the event and someone will
also be awarded with a whtwolfden Geocoin.
Please Bring your own writing instrument
and write your Geo-Name on the log card as well
as the number of members or guests on your team, then drop it in
the marked file pouch held by one of the "tourists".
***Please print clearly, remember this is also
your drawing ticket and it must be legible.***
If you are part of a caching team who all use
the same caching name, it is your responsibility to make sure one
of your members dropped it in the pouch.
This will allow you to log the event online.
We will be checking!
Remember, this is the only available log in
time!
Now
for the important part...
Once you have logged your attendance, line up in a single file line
to prepare for the event
activity!
10:05 - 10:13
Signal will proceed to the
front of the single file line you should have all already formed
and you will now hear Conga music playing.
That's right, you are now part of the first Geo-Conga Line to
traverse the Fremont Street Experience.
We will all Conga our way west down Fremont Street in an attempt
to reach The Plaza Hotel by 10:13.
If we don't make it all the way to the end in time, we will stop
wherever we happen to be at 10:13.
Please note: Unless you are physically unable to
perform the activity, you MUST
participate.
10:13 - 10:14
Quickly gather together for a group photo. Usual group photo
etiquette applies, kids and vertically challenged in front, and
height enhanced cachers in the back. Listen to whtwolfden (The
Tourists) for directions.
10:14
This is our One Minute Warning!
At this time whtwolfden will call out
"ONE MINUTE, GATHER FOR THE DRAWING"
One log card will be drawn for our FTF (First To Find) winner,
then a second log card will be drawn for the winner of a
whtwolfden Geocoin.
10:15
Soon as the 2nd drawing prize (the geocoin) is given out, everyone
should leave the area in a disorderly manner and in different
directions.
Please if at all possible, avoid grouping. This will really make
tourists and onlookers wonder what that was all
about.
If muggles are curious about
the event we will have a handout that explains geocaching. Just
direct them to whtwolfden.
