Geocache Description:

Spanish Peaks Vista
Find this cache and enjoy unparalleled dramatic views of the Madison River Valley, Spanish Peaks, and Ennis. Plan to take a family portrait against the backdrop of this spectacular vista! Site is friendly for persons enabled with crutches, walkers, and canes.

Cache Container and Site
This cache is located at a scenic turnout on HWY 287 between Ennis and Virginia City. Please take care as you exit and enter the highway.

The cache container is a rectangular clear dry box. It is clearly marked as a GeoCache game piece and contains: A log, a pencil, and several trade items. The Cache is hidden underneath a bush and group of rocks strategically placed to form a “hidden compartment." Please return the cache to its hiding place, taking care to re-cover the “hidden compartment” in a way that looks “natural”. Site is partially visible from the parking lot- please be discreet to keep muggles from investigating your activity. Initial trade items include some “gold coins” to honor William Ennis who homesteaded along the Madison River in 1863 following gold rush discoveries in Alder Gulch. Additional Find at this location: Locate a memorial headstone for Anna D. Reels.

Northwest of Yellowstone National Park, the Madison River leaves Hebgen Lake and runs north about 90 miles to the Headwaters of the Missouri River in Three Forks, MT. Enjoy your trip in the Madison River Valley: take a swim in Ennis Lake; fish the Madison River; hike to lakes in the Tobacco Root Mountains; white water raft through Bear Trap Canyon; float the Madison River; explore the historic towns of Ennis, Virginia City, and Three Forks; visit Buffalo Jump and Headwaters State Parks; soak in one of the few hot springs that are located on public land at Upper Petosi Hotsprings. Visit www.trails.com for more information on hiking trails and public access in this region.

Always be sure to take water and emergency provisions when hiking or participating in outdoor activities. Please check local park service recommendations before heading out into forest and other wilderness areas.
