Geocache Description:

*** CACHE DOES NOT REQUIRE SPECIAL EQUIPMENT ***

As you might guess from the cache title, you may find yourself being watched by many strange eyes while attempting this cache. As also suggested, the cache is indeed on an island: Caddo Lake's mysterious Goat Island. Despite such ominous forebodings, however, you will not need a boat or other waterborne transportation to reach the area. But you could well need an exorcist along to ward off the evil beings you might encounter deep within the primal swamplands.

The first order of business -- and perhaps the most difficult -- will be finding the correct road. Most maps don't show it, so you'll probably encounter a few dead ends before you hit upon the magic combination. You'll likely see an ominous "No Trespassing" sign at one critical juncture; this refers to the land on both sides of the road, not to the road itself. Once you find this secret road, watch your GPS carefully. If you use loadable maps, it will seem that you are driving in the lake itself for quite some distance!

When you eventually reach Goat Island, you'll be looking for two separate cache containers. Stage One is a magnetic keyholder; nestled inside you'll find the coordinates needed to continue. This container is hidden on the largest structure in sight, well above flood stage, although you might not spot the structure itself until you are almost upon it. And although the cache is indeed tucked away in the most obvious spot, you may have trouble convincing yourself that you'll have to go after it! Most importantly, be sure to replace the coordinate slip in the container for the next cacher.

The final cache container is a camouflaged two-quart Lock & Lock, approximately six inches tall and cylindrical. Inside you'll find several trade goods. The adventurous First To Find cacher will also discover a shiny new Second Edition Texas Geocoin, fresh from its unveiling at the Texas Challenge 2005 event.

Enjoy your adventure (or misadventure, as the case may be). And if you get to thinking that you've travelled so far out into the middle of nowhere that you'll never be heard from again, be comforted by the fact that we encountered a big yellow school bus on the way out from hiding the cache!
